Matilda K. Rose (Sasquatch) Boss Fight Guide for Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 (2024)

This guide will cover how to fight and defeat the boss Matilda K. Rose, AKA Sasquatch, in Cyberpunk 2077 after she was enhanced in Update 2.1.

This guide is up-to-date for Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.12

When do you fight Sasquatch

You encounter Sasquatch inside the Grand Imperial Mall (GIM) in Pacifica, guarding the entrance to the cinema where the Netwatch agent is hiding. The encounter takes place towards the end of the mission I Walk the Line.

How to defeat Sasquatch

As one of the first true boss encounters in the game, you may be not be expecting this fight to be so mechanical. CD Projekt reworked the encounter with the release of Update 2.0 and made it more entertaining and more challenging.

Below you will read an explanation of the fight mechanics and how to recognize and react to each one.

Implant and Weak Point

Matilda has a small glowing implant on her spine that seems to give her some health regeneration and enable her to wield the Sasquatch’s Hammer. Your Kiroshi will highlight it in orange after scanning her. If you deal enough damage to the implant, you will destroy it and weaken her, or cause the fight to bug out.

Destroying the implant will deactivate her health regeneration and make her too weak to wield the Sasquatch’s Hammer, forcing her to rely on her hand-to-hand combat skills instead.

Unless you can restrict her movement or enhance hers, you’ll have a really tough time hitting her weak point, though it’s not necessary to destroy the weak point to defeat her.

Destroying her implant can also cause her to bug out, where she’ll just freeze and stop attacking completely, allowing you to defeat her easily. This seems to happen more often if you manage to destroy it while she’s running to pick up her hammer, but it can happen after.

Sasquatch’s Hammer

At the beginning of the fight, Matilda runs over to pick up her hammer that’s just lying on the ground. If you’re quick or sneaky, you can nab it before she does.

The Sasquatch’s Hammer does not seem to have a significant impact on her damage output or lethality in melee combat. The hammer has a slower swing speed but greater damage per hit compared to her punches and kicks. The more significant difference is that each unblocked strike from the hammer will knock you down, making it easier for her to land follow-up hits.

If your build is focused on melee combat and you time your block correctly to land a counter-attack, you’ll get an opening to wail on her implant for a bit. Don’t worry if you can’t time these correctly because the Sasquatch’s Hammer is heavy. She eventually gets tired and needs to rest for a moment, giving you an opening to destroy the implant if you lack the means to do it sooner.

Tackle Hack

Once you’ve taken Matilda’s implant / weak point offline, she will tackle you, connect to your personal link or insert a shard to install something, rough you up a bit, and then just let you get up. This attack only happens once and does not damage you.

The daemon she installs will allow the Netwatch agent to hack you, and since she lets you get up, it’s probably in an attempt to get at Placide. For the remainder of the fight, you’ll see another bar beneath Matilda’s HP that shows Netwatch and Placide duking it out through the net.

This meter is just for show. Neither side ever wins. The progress meter has nothing to do with either your or Matilda’s HP.

Hand-to-Hand Combat

Once Matilda can no longer wield the Sasquatch’s Hammer, either because you stole it or broke her implant, she’ll just start beating you up instead. As I mentioned earlier, her punches and kicks aren’t consequentially different from her hammer strikes.

All of her melee attacks hit super hard. If you get hit by a full attack sequence, there’s a good chance you won’t survive, and the base dodge doesn’t let you cover enough distance to get out of the way in time. You must dash, block, or use Cyberware to avoid her attacks. Otherwise, you must remain out of melee range at all costs.

Dashing

Matilda has the ability to Dash, allowing her to rapidly close the gap and avoid your attacks. She can do it with or without the hammer, though she almost always does it after she picks up the hammer for the first time.

If you can’t survive being in melee range, you need to hightail it out of there immediately!

Ad Screens

The Netwatch Agent will hack the ad screens embedded in the floor to rise up. Both of you can destroy them with ease, though they do block your vision and some attacks.

If you’re having trouble, you might want to use something that reveals enemies through walls, but they’re more of a distraction than an actual threat.

Ground Slam

When her health gets low, she’ll jump into the air and slam the ground, though it doesn’t seem to work properly right now. You don’t take any damage or get knocked down or anything, even if she lands a direct hit.

She doesn’t track you after she’s jumped into the air, so you just need to get away from where you were as soon as you see her jump. It takes her a bit to get up after this attack, so it’s a great opportunity to wail on her.

Tips to defeat Sasquatch

Sasquatch is stronger than you, and she will win if you attempt a frontal assault. However, she’s focused entirely on enhancing her offensive capabilities, so if you can withstand those and land some well-placed hits while she’s recovering, you’ll be able to take her down.

She exclusively deals damage with melee attacks, so you either need to block those, dash to avoid them, or stay out of her range. In order to deal damage, you’ll need to rely on unique tools that your build has access to, especially those that make it easier to aim by slowing down time or restricting her movement.

I don’t recommend retooling your build to be as tanky as possible to try and out-pizza the hut. Instead, it’s time to determine and focus your build’s playstyle by taking only the most relevant Perks and Cyberware. It will come with the tools necessary to defeat Mathilda. If it doesn’t you’ll struggle against other enemies going forward, not just the Sasquatch.

What Loot does Sasquatch drop

Sasquatch herself doesn’t drop any notable loot, just a random assortment of items like what you’d get from other strong enemies. However, you can find Sasquatch’s Hammer in the room where you fight her and pick it up whenever she isn’t holding it, including before the fight even starts.
